Endorsement Meeting Information

The process for our endorsement meetings will be quite simple. These will be special meetings of the central committee, with the purpose of endorsements. The meetings were duly announced at our previous central committee meeting, and thus notice was properly given. A challenge would be, I think, quite hard, since our bylaws (as amended) provide for the endorsement task force to set, and inform the central committee of, the timeline for endorsements. The proceedings will be as follows: -PCPs sign in, and receive ballots for all races to be considered at the meeting. -The meeting is convened by the Chair. -Each race is considered in turn. -The meeting is adjourned. The consideration of each race will be as follows: -Each candidate is given a period of time to use as he or she sees fit. -The PCPs cast their votes to support ("yes"), oppose ("no"), or remain neutral ("no endorsement") on each candidate. -The ballots are counted while the next race is considered. The length of the meeting will be divided into equal shares, with an allowance for the inevitable delays of changing speakers, collecting ballots, and other procedures. Each unopposed candidate addressing the central committee will be given one share of time, and each candidate in a race in which multiple Democrats are running will be given two shares of time. In races with multiple Democrats running for the same position, campaign representatives may speak on behalf of a candidate. The chair may, at his or her sole discretion, allow surrogate speakers in uncontested races as well. If we have to cancel the Friday endorsement meeting, we'll postpone until Saturday, 6 PM, at PSU - in the same room as the others (Smith 327-329). 2/17 - Candidate Forum / Endorsement Meeting - local nonpartisan races 2/18 - Candidate Forum / Endorsement Meeting - Oregon House and Senate races 2/18 - Candidate Forum / Endorsement Meeting - Statewide races
