Inside the Multnomah Democrats

The Democratic Party of Multnomah County is the official representation of reigstered Democrats who live within Multnomah County, Oregon. All voters legally registered as Democrats, and residing in Multnomah County, are members of this organization and of the Democratic Party of Oregon (DPO)
Our vision is to restore an effective and efficient government that will respect your rights, count your votes, rebuild the economy, and restore accountability. We do that by organizing Democrats within the County to develop, adopt and support a party platform, with the goal of electing Democratic candidates to elected office. We also represent Democrats at the Congressional District and State Central committees.
We are active locally in numerous projects and issues, on a wide variety of interests and are dedicated to making people's lives better.
The Multnomah County Democratic Central Committee (MCDCC) is the highest authority in county party policies. This body has the authority to adopt rules or Bylaws or resolutions covering any matter of party government within the county. Additionally, this is the body that establishes the policies, articulates the beliefs and establishes the standard of all local Democratic candidates. These basic policies, beliefs and standards are then passed on to the State and National party for action.
The MCDCC has the power to call for and receive reports from the Administration Committee, the Executive Committee, the standing committees, and any special or ad hoc committees; Act upon proposed resolutions as provided in the County party Bylaws; Establish rules and procedures for the organization and conduct of the County Democratic Platform Convention; and takes such action as it deems appropriate to further the purposes and goals of the Democratic Party.
The precinct is the smallest political unit in the country and the Democratic Party begins it organization with the Precinct Committee Persons (PCPs). A Precinct Committeeperson is a representative of the Party in the precinct level, and represents the party in the precinct in which he or she resides.
Members of the MCDCC are made up of all PCPs elected or appointed in Multnomah County and any Democratic legislator who lives in and is a PCP of another county and who represents a portion of Multnomah County.
District Leaders (DLs) and Assistant District Leaders (ADLs) are the next level of organization within the county party. Districts are defined by the various State House Districts that are within Multnomah county. The PCPs residing in Multnomah County elect their District Leaders and ADLs, at the party's organization meeting.
District Leaders function is to set the agenda for and preside over all meetings of the District; Maintain communication with, and encourage, all PCPs in the District so as to help them successfully function as PCPs; When the District is represented in the Legislature in either the House or the Senate by a Democrat, assist the Representative and/or Senator to whatever extent is reasonably possible and acceptable to the Legislator(s) in maintaining communication with PCPs and constituents, and in carrying out his or her legislative duties; Represent the District at meetings of the Executive Committee as permitted by the party Bylaws and, appoint, from among the District's PCPs, standing committee members to represent the District on all standing committees except the Credentials Committee.
The MCDCC also elects officers to the Executive Committee for two years terms, and Delegates and Alternates to the State Central Committee and Congressional Committees.
