YES for Oregon - Slate Card Drop

JANUARY 2010 SLATE CARD DROP

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED THIS WEEKEND - JUST A COUPLE OF HOURS ON YOUR SCHEDULE

There's still confusion not only ABOUT Measures 66 and 67, but many folks are still not aware of the election.  We conduct the Slate Card Drop to broadly reach voters at the time they receive their ballots with a strong, concise YES on 66/67 message.

Volunteers can do their "drop" at anytime during the weekend of the 9th-10th, (other days can be arranged for folks working or out of town this weekend)

This is the BEST volunteer activity because...

- It's at your pace, on your time schedule
- It's quick & easy

- It's a good activity for the shy or new volunteer
- Folks can be close to if not in their own neighborhood

Volunteers can work alone, team up w/ another volunteer, or bring a friend.  We encourage the latter since we'll hit our target more efficiently if volunteers recruit volunteers!

Results of Senate District 22 Nominating Convention

A nominating Convention was held on September 17th to select nominees for appointment as State Senator, District 22.

The convention came to order at 6:30, at which time registration closed. There were 82 credentialed, voting PCPs present.

The convention, by unanimous vote, determined that it would nominate exactly three candidates. The candidates were provided four minutes each to make statements to the convention regarding their candidacies.

The rules call for balloting to continue in each round until a candidate is nominated with more than 50% of the vote.

In the first round of voting, William (Chip) Shields was nominated on the first ballot with 59 votes out of 82, or about 72%.

In the second round, Jo Ann Bowman was nominated on the third ballot.

In the third round, Karol Ann Collymore was nominated on the first ballot. The convention adjourned at 8:10 PM.

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners is scheduled to deliberate and vote on the appointment during their regular meeting on September 24th. The meeting begins at 9:30 AM.
